Luke is a full throttle kind of person, sometimes it amazes me how thrilled he is by the challenge and adventure of life.
The other day we were at a new park and I looked up to see a boy standing on top of a tree. It was not Luke, but as soon as I saw it I noticed that Luke was nowhere to be found and low and behold he was halfway up that tree.
Its not every day you see anyone literally on the top of a tree, much less your own child. He went up an down a few times and then we wandered off. About ten minutes later we are walking toward the tree area, Luke was clearly tired and at the end of his day, but he saw that same boy on top of the tree and all I heard was:
“There he is! On top of the tree again!” and he bolted like a cheetah across the field to join his new found tree friend for one more excursion.
On a side note, we were at the park the other day and I overheard Luke saying to yet another climbing friend found on a park structure:
“I fell of this one once, broke my back even. But I did NOT even have to get a cast!”
Lily and I were siting while Lily played with some trains. She picked up a wooden traffic light and said “green is go”, “red is stop” and then she pointed at the yellow and stopped. She stopped and her gaze went to an unmistakable thinking gaze. I started to suggest something and she raised her hand to interrupt me and said:
“I am thinking”
I then counted off in my head fifteen seconds of silence while she thought deeply. Afterwards she moved on to something else, but I was left wondering, what the heck was she thinking about, I mean what was coursing through her head during those fifteen seconds?
I was fascinated by it all.
Random comments from Luke that I cannot seem to get out of my head.
“I was ALMOST bitten on the eyeball by a fox”
“A squirrel dropped a nut on my head”
and on a completely different note:
“The cherries taste like you didn’t wash them and that they are not organic”
To this last comment I honestly don’t know and he might be right on both accounts, what should I say in response?
A dream come true for me and possibly the greatest find in a lost LA corner mall.
After school today we went a jaunt that landed at one of our favored Pho shops and after many many years of wondering and hoping, had a peek into Big Lou’s Toys store that is NEVER open and this time I caught out of the corner of my eye a “slot car racing” sign. Could it be true, could my childhood dream of going to Polks in New York City, the greatest toy store in the world, which had an eight lane figure eight slot car track open to the public, could I actually have that again, AND for Luke and Lil’?
I sure could!
and did!
