Post 262: Yellow Parachute

Luke became quite fascinated in parachutes.

We spent the day trying to build one. He really wanted one that he could use, that would “deploy” and carry him safely to the ground, from like the top of a chair. There was some experimentation, ultimately we made one for a smaller object which worked quite well and went to the highest place he could think of (a second floor veranda at an office building nearby, which I was flabergasted he thought of because it is indeed the best place I could think of as well)  a good time was had by all.

Except, at one point in the day I was really frustrated because I felt like it was just me building a parachute for him to play with. Of course my frustration had to do with the difficulty I was having making a workable parachute! I got past all that and the one we eventually made was indeed built by both of us.

Alas, there was no photo documentation made that day for whatever reason.

But today Luke wanted to revisit the very first parachute we made that day, a yellow silk attached directly to his body and this time I was ready.

Post 260: Alone at last

We have been coming to the Bruder truck store for years.

Today due to the closing of all LAUSD schools we had a “snow day” and Bruder was tops on Luke’s list of things to do even though we have not been there in months.

Two things happened.

We got to the Bruder Truck store and the gentleman that is in charge of doling out the toys (one at a time!) was sick and also had a neck brace on. He asked if I could help him get the trucks of the shelves, to which I proudly said “yes”.

About five minutes later he said he had to leave to go to the doctors office to get his MRI checked. He pretty much said, your on your own, is that all right? To which I proudly said “yes”

So here we are alone at the Bruder Truck Store, Christmas did indeed come early.

But there is another, possibly greater side to this tale.

Every time we have been to the Bruder store in the past it has been a bit of a cat and mouse game with Lily. She just wants to wander around, doesn’t really want to play with the trucks and I wind up chasing her the whole time, kind of a drag.

Today that seems to have changed. She is totally engaged with her truck, in this case a horse trailer complete with “nay nays” and once again I am somehow surprised and amazed that my daughter Lily is actually growing up.

Post 253: What’s cuter?

Much to report as we have just successfully crossed the continent for the third? time and it seems to be getting easier, or else we got lucky. But for now, just enjoy the first poll ever.

What’s cuter?

B: A Jelly Cat riding in its own baggage check dish?

(btw, neither of these images are a put on, they both actually happened under normal operating circumstances)

Day Two Forty Three

2015-10-31 18.01.45Halloween was great. Lily lasted about twenty minutes, but Luke could have gone on and on and one. As the night continued he got into that loopy, wonderful non sensical zone where he free associates a grand wazoo. I just love it.

He would see a house with light or some activity and just strike a pose and then zoom off into the darkness. Luckily with his a little bit too large yellow rain boots he could not go all that fast. He just had a blast.

I think this shot taken by our neighbor tells the story aptly. Luke is all filled with anticipation and Lily looks like a deer (or in this case a giraffe) caught in the headlights.
