Post 301: Food glorious food

2016Mayuntitled-7 2016Mayuntitled-20-Edit

Luke eats well, Lily eats nothing. Its been that way since time began and I should get used to it, though I cant.

One of our greatest meals is butternut squash soup with pasta “boats” in it, Luke devours it and it is a great meal for us all.

But Lily says “Me no like that soup

She has tried it more than once so I have to just accept it and move on, right?

Well, tonight I made butternut squash soup and pasta boats, Lily asked for a quesadilla and I said fine.

I  place the pasta and soup in front of Luke and Lily says “where’s mine” I then put a bowl of pasta in front of her and she says, “no, with the soup over it like Lukey ” (which would never surprise me because EVERYTHING IS EXACTLY LIKE LUKEY!)

I then put some soup over her pasta, assuming it will be yet another bowl of cold food I eat myself, and no, she laps it up like no tomorrow.

I love my kids, I love my life and I love butternut squash soup with pasta boats

Post 289: Tree (Three)

2016Mayuntitled-51

Lily turned three. I could say a lot about how it feels like only yesterday…, but what I really think is that she is three today and she will be six tomorrow, why, because she told me she would be. Literally, she said “tomorrow I be six

She wanted a blue kitty cat cake. We decided on ice cream and when it came time to frost it, she decided she didn’t want that (her words) and when we served her she didn’t want the graham cracker crust it was sitting on either, what did she want?

VANILLA ICE CREAM of course!

The level of her growth is beyond description.

Today at 10:30 am I asked her what she wanted to do and her reply was “Go pick up Lukie'” which was four hours away form happening, but it tells you where her mind is at.

She also went and picked some blueberries from a blueberry bush we have, she brought them to me and I thanked her and I told her that she should leave the reddish ones on the plant until they are blue. She immediately disappeared and when she came back there were only ripe ones in the bowl. I asked her where the other ones were add she told me she had put them back on the tree.

I have been out of the blog cycle for many months, Ill try to play catch up now.

Post 284: 6

Luke turned six. It was a wonderful day and we were all filled with love, warmth, happiness and Pho.

It seems ages ago, because in kid time it is, there has been so much going on,

I just have not had the chance to do any posting, but I hope the tide has turned, even for a brief time.

For me one of the greatest moments was watching Luke patiently wait for his friends to arrive. This started about three hours prior to the party and continued right up until the first guest appeared.

The preparation was pretty big, Luke had asked for a party that contained:

  • building something from wood
  • art
  • sports

At first Mom and Dad were a bit flummoxed as to how to accommodate all these ideas, but I think we came up with a great solution. We had a pinewood derby-build-your-own-car and race it celebration.

Oh, we built the track as well, all sixteen feet of it!

We also made Pho, Lukes favorite soup and did it right, using this wonderful (and beautiful looking) recipe.

Of course there are not enough photos to do the day justice as Mom and Dad were all really busy, but it was great fun, just a small group, so it did not feel overwhelming for us and Luke had a wonderful time indeed.

Post 275: Sugar is kids coffee

Straight out of Luke’s mouth.

After suggesting that perhaps a cinnamon roll the size of DeMoines is not the best way to start the day, Luke said.

“But it might give me a little morning energy, sugar is kids coffee”

We later had the said bun, Luke ate less than half

Post 260: Alone at last

We have been coming to the Bruder truck store for years.

Today due to the closing of all LAUSD schools we had a “snow day” and Bruder was tops on Luke’s list of things to do even though we have not been there in months.

Two things happened.

We got to the Bruder Truck store and the gentleman that is in charge of doling out the toys (one at a time!) was sick and also had a neck brace on. He asked if I could help him get the trucks of the shelves, to which I proudly said “yes”.

About five minutes later he said he had to leave to go to the doctors office to get his MRI checked. He pretty much said, your on your own, is that all right? To which I proudly said “yes”

So here we are alone at the Bruder Truck Store, Christmas did indeed come early.

But there is another, possibly greater side to this tale.

Every time we have been to the Bruder store in the past it has been a bit of a cat and mouse game with Lily. She just wants to wander around, doesn’t really want to play with the trucks and I wind up chasing her the whole time, kind of a drag.

Today that seems to have changed. She is totally engaged with her truck, in this case a horse trailer complete with “nay nays” and once again I am somehow surprised and amazed that my daughter Lily is actually growing up.
