The Story of an Umma.
It might be along tale filled with hardship, warmth, anxiety, love, and who knows what else, too bad I did not have the time to even begin this tale right now because it is time to go pick up Luke.
But rest assured, the Story of an Umma is coming…
It’s either feast or famine at our house regarding remodel work. Yesterday there was two people at the house, today it seemed like two dozen.
That’s neither here nor there, just seems very hectic when there are so many people around.
Right now I am sitting dead still in traffic because the president just landed at Santa Monica airport about 1000 feet from the street back from Luke’s school. Oh well, time stops for no one, but you sure are gonna wait when the pres is nearby.
Here is a photo of proud Luke with a very cool Lego fire engine he brought to school today.
Lilly is at home sleeping, her first nap in four days. She is definitely going through some growth/developmental stuff. Seems to be much more aware of where mom and dad are, or are not. This mornings goodbye to mom was the most difficult one we had Ina few weeks. More on that subject as it unfolds.
And what about this.
Full moon fever?
Last night both kids were up around 4 or so, Luke stayed fidgety and awake the rest of the night. There was a full Lunar eclipse from like 3:30-4 am. I get to Lilly’s RIE class and lo and behold there are MANY kids who had similar nights, no crying, just awake and restless and if I ever have a question again about whether the moon affects our biorhythms, well…
So, kind of a speed read morning, Lilly did not wake until 8:20, mom had a conference call at 8am, It is garbage day and all I know is that somehow I got it all ready and kids out the door and was only seven minutes late to Luke’s drop off.
Way to go dad, lets see what the afternoon brings.
News Flash!, Lilly has now denied the nap three days in a row, three days is often the deciding line between a permanent “yes” or “no”. What does it mean, not much except Daddy time is dwindling to nil. But did I sign up for this job for more Daddy time, I DID NOT! Bring it on I say. Let’s do (more) of this!!
Blue Roof did not have vanilla ice cream? They only serve two flavors, so it seemed like a good idea to go, but where?
Surprising quote of the day from Luke concerning his vanilla milkshake:
“Daddy, I don’t want this shake to be so thick” he worked it out. All good.
Back to school for Luke, had a easy mellow morning with Lil. She seemed in a good space.
Went home and played a bit, the cleaning person comes today so it is always a game of trying to stay out of her way and stay out of the rooms she has not had a chance to clean. When you are living in approximately 300 square feet of space, it is not that easy to stay out of someones way! Then Lil was clearly ready for a nap, even the cleaning lady was saying “oh, you are ready for a nap!” so I put her down and she reacted differently that ever before. There is a fairly loud air purifier in the room, but still when a router came on in the construction zone, she just went cooky crying. I wet in and comforted her and thought it was interesting because I could barely hear the router and she has CERTAINLY slept through a LOT more noise in the last ten weeks, never the less, I put put her back down. Well, cut to about five tries later and each time I go in she is just standing there with arms outstretched to me to pick her up and that was the end of the nap. She had never exhibited this before, the arms outstretched, “where’s my love” pose, just needing to be held? I texted her Mom about it and feel it is probably a growing developmental thing, who knows? The truth is her nap may be coming to an end based on historical data anyway.
After school:
Blue Roof (Foster Freeze) strikes again
Followed by a trip to the Santa Monica Swim Center which Luke suggested and I fought internally. Blue Roof is across the street from the Swim Center, but we had to go home to get swimming supplies and come back, my first impulse is “what a drag, but the end of that story is that I thanked Luke for thinking of it, I really needed something like that the end my day, it was a wonderful romp in the pool.
Dinner was a real eye opener. We had basically the same thing we had yesterday. Roll ups (now called burritos because Luke asked if I could make them without the stuffing coming out the sides and I suggested that was a burrito. He was very skeptical at first, but now proudly tells his mom about the burrito!)
