Post 294: Speed Racer

A dream come true for me and possibly the greatest find in a lost LA corner mall.

After school today we went a jaunt that landed at one of our favored Pho shops and after many many years of wondering and hoping, had a peek into Big Lou’s Toys store that is NEVER open and this time I caught out of the corner of my eye a “slot car racing” sign. Could it be true, could my childhood dream of going to Polks in New York City, the greatest toy store in the world, which had an eight lane figure eight slot car track open to the public, could I actually have that again, AND for Luke and Lil’?

I sure could!

and did!

Post 262: Yellow Parachute

Luke became quite fascinated in parachutes.

We spent the day trying to build one. He really wanted one that he could use, that would “deploy” and carry him safely to the ground, from like the top of a chair. There was some experimentation, ultimately we made one for a smaller object which worked quite well and went to the highest place he could think of (a second floor veranda at an office building nearby, which I was flabergasted he thought of because it is indeed the best place I could think of as well)  a good time was had by all.

Except, at one point in the day I was really frustrated because I felt like it was just me building a parachute for him to play with. Of course my frustration had to do with the difficulty I was having making a workable parachute! I got past all that and the one we eventually made was indeed built by both of us.

Alas, there was no photo documentation made that day for whatever reason.

But today Luke wanted to revisit the very first parachute we made that day, a yellow silk attached directly to his body and this time I was ready.

Post 254: Maine, always cold

Before we went back east for Thanksgiving we were told it was going to be in the 50’s, hey kinda like Los Angeles in the morning, perfect, pack light!

The day after we got there the thermometer read 19 degrees! Solution, go to Target and buy warmer clothes for the kids. It was amazing the selection Target Bangor, Me had for kids, great stuff that they don’t sell back home, of course not it is Maine, right!

Anyway, some of the best memories are from that crazy auto generated GIF moves that Google Photos makes for me, here are two that tell the story.
